Children in third through fifth grade are invited to deepen their walk as disciples of Jesus Christ through song, study of the Bible, hands-on activities, and prayer time.
In Encounter, we are creating sacred space for older children to worship God. After the children are led from the sanctuary to their classroom upstairs, we re-enter into worship together by lighting the Christ candle, singing the Doxology, and quieting ourselves to listen to God. Then we open the Bible to the lesson and listen to what God's Word is speaking to our hearts. After the story, the children have time to respond to what they heard with their choice of activities. These include journaling, making art, writing a poem, rewriting the story or doing a craft. Students also spend a few minutes together practicing memorization. As a group, we then share prayer requests and pray before having our feast (i.e. snack) and returning to the service for Holy Communion.
This fall, we are exploring the Old Testament through the lens of God's covenants. We are sharing the big story of God's rescue plan for humanity and how He ultimately fulfills His promises through Jesus Christ.
